LuAnna is a local facilitator, learner, justice advocate, farmer, adventurer, food-sharer, and friend. Raised in Asheville, NC, Appalachia has always been home to her. She studied Sustainable Development at Appalachian State University, and has been a part of the community for the past five years. Boone had become a place of learning and healing for her, and after graduating in 2020, she wanted to further her community involvement and connection. She is an Adjunct Instructor for the Sustainable Development Department at ASU, and works as a facilitator at High Country Forest Wild (a local forest program for kids). She contributed to the creation of the Appalachian Climate Action Collaborative (ClimAct), a community group focused on climate and social justice in the High Country, where she continues work in climate justice. She is also a founding and active member of BAD Composting, a local composting cooperative, and holds a position on the Town of Boone's Sustainability Committee. With a rural farming background, LuAnna's research interests are focused on regenerative agriculture, alternative economies, mutual aid and community care, rural community development, and how to center communities through the necessary changes in the fight against climate change.
